SNOW

Apparentlysomebody claims there is no proper winter without snow. We could not disagreemore, even if we tried, which we don’t. Snow is a cruel invention by MotherNature who does nothing but make problem for the citizens and even the shortestvisits outdoors results in painfully cold paws.

Model say: “PLEASE!More wood is urgently needed for this fireplace!”

Learn tolike snow

Citizensare naturally positive creatures, who honestly like to do the best out of anysituation. Therefore they refuse to let them self be negative influenced by thecruel cruel snow. Beauty has therefore had to add several extra classes in hisfamous “Learn to like snow – course” both for beginners and advanced users. Theteacher are actually working so hard, that he almost don’t even have time to curlup on the coach together with the male human, a couple of cats and a cabbitwhen the evening comes. Only almost though.

Sheppardsay: “Actually vading in tall snow isn’t only fun, but it is good exercise aswell. I am not sure I need all that exercise in the long run though…”

Big Daddy & DJ sQuil was last observed heading back to their home in a surprisengly high speed.

Cold coldpigs

Big Daddyand DJ sQuil thought they should join in on one of Beauty’s classes, but whenthey were told the class was currently filled up and they would have to waituntil next class, to shocked pigs immediately returned home, and have not beenobserved since.

The pigsmay have comments, but it is not to be heard from were they have locked themselvesinto their beloved cottage.

Cold rescue

A certainMr Goose doesn’t have any problem with the snow what so ever. At least almostnot what so ever. The rumour has it that his food bowl actually snowed in, but apparentlyMr Goose immediately called the professional rescuers, and the food bowl wasurgently not only retrieved but also filled up with fresh food.

Mr Goosesay: “Luckily I know what to in a situation like that, so I didn’t panic atall. After all this is why I have an emergency drill every day, sometimes evenseveral times a day. You do not catch me unaware, that is for sure!”

The Deerwalk

While outon a social walking the other day, we noticed that the deer walk going from “Theend of the world” through “No-mans land” to end up at the “Walnut tree” seem tobe well used. We therefore decided to try it for our selves, as it would reallybe a very nice short cut. The only problem is that this walk might not be long,actually it is SHORT, but the distance is equally long in height meters as in actualmeters, which could lead to problem for some (1) member of the group. Still we wentat it with our normal positive attitude. We are happy to announce that it was asuccess. Even though some used longer time than others, everybody got safely down.If certain citizens hadn’t insisted on eating their way through, it might alsohad been very time consuming.

Latte say: “Allin all I would call this a success, if only we could get some more timeconsuming all the nice snack along the walk, it would even be perfect.”

The long commute

Like withevery other citizen, this isn’t exactly Big Daddy & DJ sQuils favouritetime of the year. Not only is the freezing temperatures bad enough, but NOOOO,you actually have to commute to get to work. Wile the rest of the year isfilled with delicious green and fruit and berries and even the occasional nut,this time of the year is dreadful. You have to commute all the way up to theold wine yard to get some proper foraging done at all, and for WHAT! Old roots!

DJ sQuilsays: “You know, I don’t mind my job at all. Honest I don’t. Rootmanagement isa very important part of our job you know. It is jobs were you need a lot ofexperience at least if you want it done proper, and we pigs, let me tell you,we have the best work ethics in the business. Not only in the business, allover I would say. We only do a job if we can do it proper, because otherwise itisn’t worth doing. Still I do prefer other jobs we have, as they taste thatmuch better, but on this time of the year, this is the only job left, as we workso hard the rest of the year. We pigs are incredible hard working you see. Sowe saved rather boring commute foraging for now. It’s a huge project, but I amoff course in total control. Like always I would say. If you want a job done,leave it with us!”

The snackrobbery!

Like withthe pig department also the hen department suffers with more problems than thecold. Every so often the evilness itself manifest in the shape of the ugliestbird you ever ever saw, and fly over the hens outing area. This has led to thehen staying indoors until afternoon.

Stayingindoors can off course be rather boring for hens that normally spend the daytracking around our kingdom. So to get their mind off the lack of free movementdue to the evil ugly killer bird, they have put in a subscription for an extrasnack delivery. Off course nothing is perfect, so the hen department is nowworking with the snack producer to find a solution who does not discriminatethe bigger hens for first dip at the delivery.

TheSpokeshen say: “This is a tricky situation for us bigger ladies. The smallerladies seem to take advantages of their small size, and literally dive into thesnack for the best bits. This is not fare, and we have therefore decided tohire a guard. Hopefully this will solve the problem at beak.”

We all knowKing Tiny as a very thoughtful individual, always concerned about everybodyelse’s well being. Therefore nobody was surprised when thought the hen couldneed some help. While inspection the hen palace he noticed that the hens had somuch eating to do, that they didn’t have time to keep those nice wonderfullooking egg companied. He had but no choice to take it upon him, and with outany thought of his own well being he crawled into the nest box to keep thelonely eggs accompanied.

King Tinysay: “You know, you just have to help out whenever you see the need. That isthe only right thing to do!”

Out enjoying the SUN!

Sunshine!

Finally thecold fog realized that it had most definitively overstayed its welcome, and leftfor a break. Must it be a very long break indeed. In the meantime the Sun isnot only back, but for today it even brought its good friend Warm. The citizenshave therefore yet again taken to the outdoors, and this time in a happilyfashion.

Big Daddy say:“What do you mean?! We don’t need extra food anymore?!! ONLY 30 apples forbreakfast?!!!”

The art ofwine farming – cat style!

The dayswhen this used to be an active wine farm is long gone. Even Beauty can’tremember those days, so we are really talking ancient history here. Not all isgone though. Are you lucky you can even get to taste a grape when they are inseason, off course if DJ sQil didn’t get there before you, which he most likelydid. King Tiny doesn’t care about the grapes though. He does on the other paw,care about the old poles. These are of the most vital importance for any winecat, as they come as fully equipped cat training station. You can scratch yourclaws, climb them and balance on them. Therefore King Tiny has taken it uponhim to safety check all the standing poles, and this is a responsibility hetakes very serious indeed. If in doubt he just keeps checking them until he issure one way or the other. Some poles are actually checks several times a day.As you can clearly see from the photo above, he does this with out any thoughtfor his own security.

Big Daddysay: “I knew it, DJ sQuil did eat those grapes! That ¤?”((¤##!”

After yearswatching the cats playing the extremely advanced game cat chess, the Sheppard finallymanaged to talk the cats into letting her play with. Off course whereas thecats are born with the rules built into their head, the same can absolutely notbe said of any dog. Therefore the Sheppard had to take private lesson from theModel with King Tiny as an assistant trainer before she will be allowed intothe official Maifrin Cat chess cup. If she will pass the course that is.

The Modelsay: “Unfortunately the will to play is NOT equal to actual talent. We startedthe lessons at scratch, and that was just to advanced, so we had to invent acompletely new low level. We call it Dog Chess!”

The Cabbit does not agree with the lack of snack in the world.

The Cabbitsdelivery

The Cabbitwas delirious of happiness when the delivery man called and asked if the Cabbitcould arrange to have his delivery picked up in the village the next day. Ithad been a long wait, but finally his snack refill was arriving. The Cabbitdidn’t leave anything to change, and his driver was put on 24 hours phoneservice, and the car was ready to go in a jiffy. When the package finallyarrived the Cabbit went into a snack frenzy.

The cabbitsay: “What do you mean? I can’t have it all at once?? But…. I have all readyput in a new order!”

The Cold Continues

The coldcontinues to bother the poor poor citizens. Fare enough, part of the days isnow fog free, but otherwise the humidity is huge even then, and we never seemto be anything but below zero. The sheep, goats and goose still insist onstaying outdoors, the rest, oh well, they really don’t get out that much. Eventhe hens have left their favourite hobby of foraging and seems to prefer theindoors.

Seniorasay: “I have never understood the pleasure of staying outdoors anyway. Now,could anyone please switch on my heating blanket?”

The first bath!

Yesterdaysomebody got the swell idea that it might was time to go down to the river. Theidea was met with huge enthusiasm, but only from the dog department. A cararrived to taxi the 2 strangely enough happy dogs down to the riverside, whilethe rest of us totally ignored the stupid idea. Apparently the river wasbeautiful, and while the side part of the river had offensive ice all over theplace, the main part of the river was surprisingly free from the blasted stuff.Still, almost 24 hours later, nobody have found any conclusion to why Sheppardthought it necessary to chose this time for her first bath this year. Not even her.Fare enough, the smell of dog is there, but honestly, it isn’t that bad, atleast not when you are used to it like we are. We are happy to announce thatthe Sheppard did not catch any cold from her poor lack of judgement, but we donot recommend her any new trip to the river until the weather has approved withat least 15 degrees Celsius.

Beauty say:“You know, this has gone totally out of proportions. Honestly, it is not likeit was a proper bath or anything. She just vaded! OK, personally I vaded in amore shallow part of the river, but only just, only just. Than again, I vadedin the side part of the river! What, did she also vade in the shallow part ofthe river? Are you sure? I can’t really recall that sight.”

Moving in?

It seemslike it is getting more and more popular to become a citizen, which off courseis highly understandable. We were therefore not at all surprised when wenoticed that new building had occurred with in our borders. We still haven’tseen the builders, but we would like to congratulate them with their choice ofproperty and welcome them to our gang.

Latte says:“Now, where did a put that left over wool from last season? Maybe they coulduse that as nest material?”

Mr Purr is shockingly observed on the wrong side of the duvet!

The purringquilt

At the sametime it starting to get cold around here, some strange sounds started to occurunderneath the cat department’s favourite duvet. While most of the cats isusing the duvet in a proper cat fashion, heap sleeping to maximize the heatcollection, some (as earlier mentioned) strange sounding sounds with attachedvibration has been arriving from underneath the duvet itself. Seriousinvestigations led horrified cats to discover that a certain Mr. Purr were nolonger happy with the heat from the heap sleeping, and had moved underneath theduvet for an even warmer climate.

King Tinysay: “Please! Can anybody get that so-called cat a proper fur before he put usall to shame?”

NOPE! The weather doesn't look good at all!!

FROZEN

It wasn’t at all a goodmorning for the citizens. It was not only cold, but the air had been painted ina not at all see through dark grey and everything had been covered in icecrystals. Some might consider this beautiful, but the citizens prefer thewarmer beauty.

The Model say: “It is just aswell I can’t see anything through this )#?”&&=!( fog as there isnothing I want to see anyway!”

Not all the citizens are equally bothered by the cold weather.

Frozen wool?

Not everybody seems to beequally horrified of the coldness that surrounds us. A certain sheep didn’tfeel much worse at all. He might be surrounded by icy matters, but he isfirstly surrounded by the warmest and fluffiest wool. It is actually so niceand hot that it shall a bit more than some silly frozen fog to scare that boyindoors.

Caffe says: “When you have a woollencoat like me, sometimes the cold can actually be a little bit refreshing. Offcourse frozen wild food is a required taste….”

Out for a cold walk.

Cold walk

It might be cold and it mightbe foggy but a walk is still a walk, and it has to be done. Therefore as normalthe citizens (some of them at last) did as normal head off towards the end ofthe world. Spite cold paws and freezing snouts, no checkpoint was missed out. Trees,walls and stones was climbed and/or signed just like normal. Still the walk wasreported to be just a little bit faster than normal. Not because it was coldoff course, but because the view was non-existent.

The Sheppard say: “To keepwarm I just run even faster, and let me tell you, that is incredible fast!”

What happens to frozen wasp nuts?

Frozen food

A piggy piggy isn’t either sobothered by the cold weather. Yes, it might be a little cold around thetrotters, but finally all the work to get the body well isolated is paying off,so as long as there is food to be eaten the pigs are happy. Frozen food is alsofood, still some pigs may prefer warmer food. Therefore it was not with sadnessin their hearts the frozen mutant oak nut. Being their normal soft heartedpigs, they could not but hope that the %&(&¤%/¤& wasp had frozendead in the nut it had stolen!

DJ sQuil sais: “You know, we pig are the kindestliving creatures there is. You actually can’t get any kinder than us, it isjust not possible. We are the nicest there is, and that is a fact. There justisn’t anybody nicer than us. I am the nicest pig there is. Still food is food,and you just don’t better steal my food!”

Beauty beeing interviewed about the importance of dog fashion.

Let me leash!

After a certain dog (lets call her Sheppard) had “forgotten” her leash at the neighbours the evening before after a “do not run after the car” –episode, the dogs were terrified to discover that they only had one leash between them and lunch at their favourite bar. This being (due to human regulations, what else) one leash too little. The leash store was closed for lunch so suddenly good advice was scares. What to do? A throughout search of the car didn’t help much, no leash did magically reappear. Would they really have to skip lunch? The thought was just too painful. So Beauty decided to sacrifice himself. He volunteered to use a shopping bag as an ultra fashion statement leash. After all you can’t do statements like that in your local bar, were can you?

Beauty said: “With my amazing beauty you can get away with everything! Several fashion designers and magazines have all ready been in touch.”

Yesterdays eggs. No prize for guessing which is not the egg of the Spokeshen!

Fresh eggs

Now that the days finally are getting longer happy hens do yet again want to produce the most beautiful eggs you have ever seen. This year’s egg season is therefore now officially started. Everybody off course claiming that there is no egg more beautiful than theirs. Still some hens need a couple of tries to get properly back into the game. Is it not that easy apparently?

The Spokeshen say: “I do off course not need adjustment of my perfect egg laying skills, but some of my fellow hen does, and there is absolutely no shame in that!”

Nightly serenade

During the night when most of the citizens were a sleep, a guest arrived. From under the balconies the nightly guest started to sing. Deer music filled the dark night. Since it would be rude to interrupt a guest artist like that, the citizens decided it was best not to get out on the balcony to applause, especially since deer are famous for being a little skittish. Instead they turned around and continued to sleep with the lullaby hanging in the air. Unfortunately the guest didn’t stay, and had left by the time the light hit the new day.

Mr Postman

Everybody who knows us does know how we really appreciate the old fashion snail mail system. We just love it when we get postcards and packages in our mailbox. (Bills not that much to be completely honest.) What we do not understand is why the postal services itself seems to sabotage us. After all the postage is paid, and we use a lot on postage our self for nice things to end up in other mailboxes. This is supposed to share joy and happiness, but obviously this is not to liking of most countries postal services. For instance this beautiful piece of pig art was stamped the 18/12 but did not arrive here before the 9/1. Dear postal services, why do you this to us, WHY?

Big Daddy say: “Actually I think I know why this card in especially was delayed. The Postal service is ashamed with good reason indeed, that they manage to bend the one corner of this most beautiful photo.”

Enemy alert!

This message goes out to the hen department in particular. A falcon is observed and as normal it is only interested in spreading pain, evil and sorrow. Therefore until further notice we have come to the conclusion that the hen department will have to spend the first part of the day in the safety of their hen palace. Extra snack will be provided together with light entertainment.

Dogs in Rome

As ashocking start to the New Year, the dogs favourite bar choose to take vacation,and closed down for a whole week. You can all imagine the dogs despair to thishorrible act of selfishness from their local bar. Still the dogs are of theforgiving sort, and when the bar people finally got their lazy act together,two dogs were yet again observed sleeping themselves through lunch time.

TheSheppard say: “It isn’t like we are depended on that bar or anything. We do offcourse lay down in other bar as well, but in this bar the other customersdepend of our company you know.”

Excitement

Some mightthink that the citizen’s life is filled with excitement. They are wrong! Lifecan in fact be rather boring and it therefore doesn’t take much to please them.Some are even easier pleased than the rest, like when Mr Goose was totallyexcited and happy watching the new food containers getting washed and driedout.

Mr Goosesay: “For crying out loud! It is not that I really enjoy watching the cleaningof the food containers, but knowing one of them was for me, and in the meantimeI got myself a drizzle shower and afterwards I got to splash around in water.Utterly wonderful!”

Yesterdayit was time for the monthly full moon concert. So while the full moon wasrising over the hills, we were lucky enough to be mesmerized by the mostbeautiful tunes floating through the evening air. When Beauty and Mr Goose togetherhit the high notes everybody else (including the chorus) just stop and for awonderful moment it is like the moon is shining only for you.

PHLEBOTOMY!!

From thevets archive part 1

Lately theModel hasn’t been completely up to his normal colors, and almost everybody hasbeen worried about him. Therefore a certain cat agreed to take a trip to thevet (after he had been catnapped and forced in to a cage and placed in thecar). Unfortunately the vets are not really up to date, and still believe inthe very old method of phlebotomy. Needless to say, the Model is more updatedon his veterinarian research and protested wildly. The vets tried to tell himhow they just wanted to analyze his blood, and only a very small part of it.The cat did not listen, mostly because he couldn’t hear a thing as he wasscreaming out as high as he could, and it seems like the Model has an enormous lungcapacity. It might not have helped on the situation that at the same timesomebody had wrapped him in a blanket and a traitorous human and two vets triedto hold him calm enough to get to his precious blood. Needless to say theModels arguments won the discussion. There was no phlebotomy! A certain cat waslooking incredible SMUG the whole way home.

The Modelsay: “Phlebotomy!!!!! There is nothing wrong with me. I am perfect! Perfect!! Iam just longing for the spring. PHLEBOTOMY?!!”

Nest with a view

If it is something all hens know is that humans know nothing about making a proper nesting area for egg production. Unfortunately they keep on trying. Still their last try was actually not that bad, and several hens have been observed checking out the new installation, and even eggs has occurred. Off course, as soon as the novelty wears off, the hens will move on, but in the mean time…..

The Spokeshen said: “This nest box isn’t half bad actually, to be human made I mean. It has everything I look for, a nice cosy bottom, roof and only one entrance, and as a bonus it is elevated and even has a view. It will work for a short now.”

Cat(s and their )nip
Due to what the citizens can only describe as wonderful winter weather (in the daytime at least) the cat department are happy to see that their catnip is yet again sprouting from the earth. Off course it hasn’t sprouted that much yet, so the word “their” doesn’t really work at the moment. Serious discussions have been made over the subject of who should have first dip at the nip, but an agreement is still to be agreed upon.

The cat department has yet to agree about an official comment regarding this matter, but cats have often been heard yelling: “MIIIIIIINE!!!”

Recycling

Nobody can say that we here at Maifrin is not concerned about the environment. So to do our bit to make this world a place we can continue to live, we always try to recycle old object into a new career when its old purpose is no longer possible or needed. As you can clearly see here there is no lack amongst the citizens to test and try out new possibilities. In this case proposals as food bowl and bed was thrown out and the hen department has just got themselves a new nest box.

Caffe said: “We let the hen have this one, as it was clearly that this could never be a pigsecure food bowl.”

The houseguest

What the turtle ate

Most of you are completely aware of the fact that we are currently having a houseguest. This houseguest has the strange shape of a turtle. The lady is currently undergoing medical treatment due to an infected shell, and therefore has to be kept awake in a period were she should actually have been at sleep. We assume this is the reason she is on the rather grumpy side and really don’t want to eat. Actually we were getting so used to her antics that we got rather surprised when she yesterday realised that we finally had found her some food she approved of; dried fish. Stunned citizens could only confirm that she was finally eating happily.

King tiny say: “And I who was ready to jump in and finish of her fish!”

Pigs will fall down

This is a general warning to everybody in our area. It is vey important to know that this years season of falling pigs has started. Several pigs have all ready been observed lying around on sunny spots, some of them even in a snoring version. The lastweek the citizens have become even more victimized by the most terriblefreezing cold. Needless to say, the citizens are not at all happy about thissituation. Off course, they do not take time out to sit down and cry about the matter;instead they use their time wisely to figure out how to best keep on livingspite these truly horrifying conditions. For instance if you see a cat beingcurled up in front of a fireplace, that is just because it is a nice place tofigure out how to minimize the time spent outdoor, and instead make more timeavailable to stay curled up in front of the fireplace planning how to use lesstime in the even colder outdoors.

Hard water

Normallythe geese don’t believe in bad weather, but lately even the ever so smug Mr andMrs Goose has been observed a little bit on the sad side what the weather isconcerned. Not that they are freezing or anything like that, but when you wantto jump into your pool for a nice refreshing morning bath, and you instead aremet by an unpleasantly hard meeting with a 5 cm thick layer of ice, even a geese can getits spirit a bit down.

Icy mode

Even if youare surrounded but the biggest ball of thick soft wool, the cold can get toyou. The normally friendly spirit between the members of the local wool producersalso got below zero. Suddenly they disagreed about disagreeing, and started arather cold discussion about leadership. Cold stares led into horn actions. Fora while the whole thing looked ice cold.

Luckily itwent so cold that the bad spirit froze up, and the 4 friends went back to dowhat they do best, eating.

Latte said:“Puh, I am seriously glad that was over. I didn’t get to eat, and I seriouslywas in danger of loosing some weight. I shall never ever fight again.”

Whereassomebody only thinks about their own pleasures in this way beyond chillyweather, somebody is sacrificing their own well being for the best of thesociety. King Tiny being the great King he is didn’t even think twice when henoticed that weather freezing up. He immediately walked straight out andinspected the stack of woods. Luckily the stacks were found to his liking, andhis cold feet was brought straight back in again for defrosting in front of theworking fireplace.

A crash between the snack time for the geese and for the pigs.

Snack time

While thefemale human was off for some not at all needed R&R, the male human lived up to the citizens expectations.Frequent snack times were suddenly added to every agenda. Sometimes the snackschedules to the different citizens were so closed together that male humandidn’t have time to move from one to the other. Thankfully all citizens are offcourse prune to co-operation, and in the lack of humans, different departmentsof citizens were observed snacking together in almost good spirit.

Lately weare the victims of some very cold mornings indeed. Several citizens are reallystruggling to get out of bed. Certain pigs for instance can’t be observed untilthe moon is long gone, as they are to busy dreaming about the sun turning andthe very thought that warm days will yet again arrive. Therefore the pigs havetotally missed out on the fact that cold mornings also can be beautiful. It ishard to believe but cold can be beautiful. Off course we can perfectly wellmanage with out some types of beauty.

In theseChristmas card time we would like to take the opportunity to thanks those ofyou who has been wonderful enough to take time out of your schedule to send usa postcard. As you can see we love them all, and they have made out kitchensuch a beautiful decorated place to be. We hope this is something that willcontinue into the next year. Not only because we would like to receive cards,but also because we like to have somebody to send cards to. We love to send cards as well. Those who sendscards to us, well, we honestly think they know we normally send someone back.

We are sad to admit that those are the only Christmas cards that has arrived. Still, no Christmas yet..

When itcomes to Christmas card those, we can only say that the door to out living roomhas a lot of free space. We feel it is sad that this nice old tradition seemsto die out. We know that a lot of persons donate the money to animal welfareand other welfare as well. Luckily for us, we do enough for welfare the rest ofthe years, so we can take time and money out to send Christmas cards anyway.

Bowling actually

While we -( me actually )- do our very best to train all humans, but our own mainly - they suddenly go training all by themself! And bowling... Are they planning to throw the food from now on?
Of course I see the benefit when it comes to carry the foodsacks, so I let Mrs Human and SubHuman Superiore Elite, SubHuman Superiore and SubHuman Bella to have their fun. According to the rumors SubHuman Superiore Elite won round 1, and SubHuman Superiore won the second round. I dont think bowling is for me though.

Training the humans - episode "who keep the count?"
In the ongoing and everlasting task to train the humans to my liking, the zoo gang have had Mr Human on the agenda for a few days. He is ever so willing to pick up on our training, but he still need hard work of course. Yesterday he only managed three of our cats on the lap at once.. Poor Primadonna and Peaceman.
Tomorrow we will teach him the clock, this has been a success with Mr. SubHuman Superiore Elite earlier, as he was told feeding the cats was at 7 o clock. So he feeded us - bless his soul - 7am and 7pm. Thats a man who understands a cat I tell you.

Looks like Christmas
a few days off now - sorry,
apparently what looks like Christmas isnt always Christmas! The other day I told you all about the poor birds up North. The situations hasnt improved, yesterday they got snow - a lot off it as well. The snow dont care about where the birds eat at all. So please remember to feed them, as they need a lot of food to keep warm during winther. But it looks like Christmas :)

Gothenburg/Gøteborg
My SubSecretary - the honorable SubHuman Superiore Elite has been away for a few days, and seen the Christmas market in Gothenburg, Sweden. A lovely visit she claims, and she now experience the Christmas spirit (according to SubHuman Superioro - thats shopping...).

Electricity
Our disappointment was enourmous when our Humans came back from Munich - the electricity had gone - gone as in vanished. Can't we trust the Humans in even the simplest of task? Keep electricity up so we can see where to eat!?
It was a tragedy. And such laim escuses as well. Well they fixed it in the end, and mr Human is back home while mrs Human is shipped up to her family for a pre-Christmas holiday. At least we have the electricity back ( :-) ) So the ungoing battle to train humans and subhumans to my liking dont seem to come to and end shortly. My agenda is full.

Virtuell Postcard from the Humans
As you might rememeber we shipped the humans off for a vacation, I have read this is important for humans. Me, I can only say: Home is my castle, and I prefer to stay close to my foodbowl.
However, the humans has sent us a virtuell postcard from Munich/München where they currently are enjoying the famous Christmas-marked in town and maybe some Glühwein..

Training the temps and my staff
This is not easy and easy task let me inform you, its an ongoing battle to keep the humans on their toes for my satisfaction nore is it easy to train my staff/zoohabitans to keep up with my standards.
We are currently looked after foodwise by prima sub-human italiana (neighbour) and her family. The Prima subhuman is a pleasant but firm subhuman with solid background on petkeeping. However her petkeeping skills is nonexistent for pigs, sheeps, goats, ducks, parrots, goose so its up to them to keep smirking ;-)
Training the staff
Yesterday I told you all about the fascination humans in general has for the catwalk symbolised as the number 8 around their feets. Today it was Mr Purrs time to practise, and it seemed surprisingly hard for him. It actually looked more like the symbol at (@) as he insisted on passing the foodbowl ever so-often... But Mr Purr turned on his soundcard-system (built-in) and all in all it was a success. But I do realise I have to train the younger ones a hole lot more! I will put in my agenda for sure.

Christmas time is approaching
as Christmas is arriving shortly our folks has disappeared to make us all ready for the Christmas holidays, this is something we all look forward too, because everybody knows SubHumans (also called the Temps) are so much more friendly with the amount of food we are given.
If we just pass their feet in a pattern which could be similar to the number 8 temps are easily fooled to give us all just a little bit more :-)
But as we are conserned about all the animals on the planet we know for sure that not everyone are so happily suited as us here at our local Zoo.
The wind and rainy weather up north is horrible, and the poor little ones need sunflowerseed! They need a lot of it as well. (we may report that the snow is absent so far this season - so we are showing a photo from the archives).

We all knowthat the Sheppard is all about keeping the society safe, and always ready to doher bit to make the world a better place to live. Therefore it came as nosurprise to us when she yesterday decided to help out at the airport. As longas she was still there, she thought she could take it upon her to sniff out whohad been good and who had been bad. So while trotting along trying to greateverybody who wants to great her, she occasional (as much as possible actually)turns her snout in the direction of as many suitcases she can. This normally beingvery well liked by humans attached to the suitcases, it is not always the case,and somebody turns rather nervous and the occasional human actually turn panicky.The latter is as earlier mentioned not a common reflex, but when it happens itseems to somewhat entertain certain humans. Normally her own, but yesterday shehad a bigger audience. While this man was trying to desperately turn hisluggage away from her snoutness, putting himself in between them looking for afast get away, he was to busy to see her whole audience. To police officers sawthe whole thing and decided they suddenly had an urgent need to talk this veryfellow. So while the police officers went over to talk to the snout hatingfellow, the Sheppard went on to sniff in other directions. Surprisingly no joboffer was received, but then again, they were to busy speaking to a certainmaybe not so gentleman.

TheSheppard say: “You know, everybody has to do their little bit to help makingthe world a better place to live. I have seen what a certain drug can do tocertain cats, so if I in anyway can stop a drug smuggler, well, here I am!”

Thievingidiots caught redmouthed

After theincident with the violated garlic, the Maifrin police unit decided that thecase would not be investigated as the harm finding out who was stupid enough toactually try to eat the garlic would cause more damage than what the damage wasto the garlic. After all, nobody wanted to know who the offender was, and eventhe garlic didn’t want to spill the news. Actually while interviewed the garlicdidn’t help at all.

What nobodysaw coming though, was that the saying; “a criminal always come back to thecrime scene” was actually true, even in garlic related crime. Due to the lackof co-operation we don’t even think the garlic saw this coming. So while aboutdoing garlic business (and we all know what that is) the offenders not onlyreturned to the scene of crime, but it happens in bright daylight. This timewitnesses was all around, and they all felt sick to their stomachs realizingthat it wasn’t only one offender but two! Neither had they learned anythingfrom their first attack, so they tried to attack the garlic AGAIN. The garlichad to do what garlic to best. It did go into full self defence mode. What happenednext is somewhat unclear though, as all the witnesses was hiding their eyesbehind paws, wings, ears and the occasional tail. What is the case though isthat two certain sheep was seeing leaving the return crime scene in a hurry, obviouslytrying to cleanse their palate in something that only can be described as asickening way.

Whilepreparing for the upcoming cold season, DJ sQuil and Big Daddy decided that theyhad to get their trotter on a new house, as their old house had an unfortunateshrinking related incident the previous spring, and was no longer under any wayable to give the two pigs the comfort they were seeking. So the two guysstarting looking at the property listed in their local newspaper. At firstglance it didn’t look well at al, as the two gentlemen was only looking at thenew buildings, and it so happens to be non new building what so ever. Afterseveral tries the pigs decided that they might even have to consider loweringtheir demands, and they turned their eyes in the direction of second handhouses. To be honest this wasn’t much better than the new building. Not becausethere was no second hand homes to come by, but they all seemed too small for a coupleof normal sized pigs with only a minimum of standards. Than suddenly there itwas. They were staring at a wonderful cottage, that with only small adjustmentswould fit the all the pigs needs, and it even looked cosy. This was all thepigs wanted, and the deal went straight through. Big Daddy and DJ sQuil hadbecome the proud owner of a wonderful one bedroom high ceiling cottage.

The cottagewas then immediately moved to the pigs private piece of land in the basement,and after a tiny adjustment to the door the pigs went at the decoration with ahuge grin on their faces.

The pigsare not available for comments, as they are currently to busy taking their newsleeping arrangement out for a spin.

Therefore she realizedthat she had to find another solution, and she needed to find it FAST! At firstglance around the courtyard it didn’t look good. Then she saw it. There it wasa tub! A goose it actually more into pools than to tubs, but the feather justcould not wait. She dived into the tub, and there she stayed until her pool wasback in business.

Apparentlynothing is safe anymore, and you just cant leave anything unwatched, not evenfor minutes. Still it comes as a chock for most of the citizens (most likelythe thief itself) when somebody had tried to steal the garlic. Not because somebodycould sink so low, but that somebody actually was stupid enough to not onlysteal the damn thing, but that the same somebody had actually tried to eat it.

Yesterday acouple of chicken was out for a nice cosy walk, when they hit jack pot. Thereit was, just lying around. It was actually waiting for the chickens to pop by. Thenow very happy chicks jumped up to the lonely food sack. What did they found?After a very through out inspection they found a hole. The chick also now thatevery food sacks biggest desire is to feed somebody, so even though theyactually weren’t that hungry, they politely digged in.

The brave Peace Supremo waiting for assistance

The result of the evil attack

Yet againthe Peace Supremo was the victim of the most horrifying attack. While runningpeacefully after a mouse, some terrorist took the opportunity to cowardlyattack him from behind. The poor chap had been hit by nothing less than a full lengthphleum seed carrier of the truly evil conviction. Peace Supremo tried everytrick in the book, but the awful thing just would not budge. In the end therewas no way around it. The remains had to be cut out of his perfect and oh sobeautiful fur.

PeaceSupremo says: “What is it somebody has against peace and understanding?”

Yet againit was time for the dogs to some diplomatic representation. Therefore the Doghad a private car taking them to the city and the famous international trufflefair. There they greeted everybody, no matter which species they belong to. Thedogs were observed moving perfectly from dog to person, everybody treated withthe same respect. In between the normal cocktail conversations that do belongto these tedious diplomatic affairs, the Sheppard even manage to help thehousehold cleaning staff. Spite her perfect diplomatic occurrence she nevermissed when somebody has lost a piece of food on the floor, was loosing a pieceof food on the floor or just planning to loose a piece of food on the floor,she was there in a jiffy, taking care of the cleaner upper business. The Truffle fair was very grateful indeed.

TheSheppard says: “It is not easy you know, but the perfect housedog in me justcan’t look at anything being spilled, and honestly, where was that cleaningstaff. I just had to help! “

The lastdays a certain sheep has been observed running around happily but almosthornless. The sheep had to pay the horntrimmer a visit when his horn not onlygrew that long, but also that thick, that they insisted to grow into his skinas well. Since the sheep didn’t think this was a good idea, but the horn stoodon theirs, well he had the horn seriously shorten in length instead.

Shaun says:“I should have done it before. Now I can yet again scratch my air, who for thatsake, don’t scratch anymore now that those heavy horns are gone.”

The Guesthas lately been observed in the hotel outdoor park area. With almost endlesshiking areas in the 4 hectarebig park, the Guest has been busy desperately trying to reach over the most interestingroutes. Therefore he also went down to the hotel reception and ordered a guideto show him the hotspots, and even threw in some advanced dog training lessons.The Guest was last seen heading for the forest while the Sheppard was left witha couple if raps on her snout.

The Guestsay: “My oh my!! This is getting better and better. The services here are justAMAZING! I am booking my next vacation right now; actually, I just think I willstay put, who wants to go home anyway?.”

Do youstrongly dislike it when there are something left in your food bowl, but youjust can’t manage to eat the last bit, finish it up? We all know that saving itfor later wont work. It goes stale so very quickly indeed. You would ratherjust get a new and proper fresh portion whenever you need it, but for that youjust have to get rid of that awful stinking incredible stale left over fromyour last meal. It is hard, isn’t it? You have tried to eat it, but honestly!You have tried to nicely stock it just outside the bowl, but noooo, nobody takea hint. You have tried screaming, nudging and scratching, but all in avail.

Rests assure,the solution is finally here. A Photo from the Peace Supremo dream, before the awful interuption

The attackof the sleeping beauty

Whilehaving a tiny nap Peace Supremo was having the most wonderful dream. He was inthis wonderful meadow. Nice soft grass, birds sang and he was having a tiny napall by himself in total harmony. Life just could not get any better. In hisdream he was just having a nice midnap position change when the most awfulthing happened. His nap was cut off due to an emergency situation. Suddenly hewas hanging on to the chair with his bare claws, just trying to get back on topon it before he would crash into the floor underneath him. It was touch and gofor several nano seconds, while the unfortunate cat was struggling to regaincontrol of the situation and the chair. The time stopped while almost freakedout witnesses was close to paralyzed by the commotion in front of them. A deepsight of relieve was heard all around the living room when Peace Supremofinally won over the situation and was able to drag himself physically unharmedback to the safe comfort of the chairs sleeping area.

The poorchap was so utterly flabbergasted by the whole scenario that it actually tookhim several minutes before he was able to continue his nap. The only strangething is that all his investigation leads to the same conclusion. There wasnobody who had attacked him, so how had he fallen of the chair in thebeginning?

Where didthe Goose go?

While therain was falling down in what only can be described as HEAVY, most of thecitizens stayed indoors. Most, not all. Geese actually don’t consider heavydown fall as bad weather. So Mr Goose decided that this was the day to go for awalk. Since we are talking about a guy who normally not even never ever leavethe courtyard, this made Mrs Goose very worried, and a search was started. Hewas nowhere to be found. So Mrs Goose and a drenched human was very happyindeed, when Mr Goose decided to come back all by himself.

Mr Goosesay: “There is no bad weather, just bad feathers!”

Afterspending a week here at Maifrin, the Guest decided that it was time for him toto some research towards what might be outside his own private quarter. So offthe old English Gentelman went. At first sight it was very promising indeed. Hefound some rather nice napping areas and bingo was reached when he reached thedining room for the resident cats. All in all the Guest was happy with hisexploring. Then the awful thing happened. He was mid stairs when Mr. Purr camealong in the other direction. The Guest immediately froze stiff, wonderingseriously what to do next. What he didn’t see coming in his wildest dream wasthis; Mr Purr went straight up in his face and gave him a long hug and a highwelcome Purr. This was too much for the old English chap and he was seenimmediately after returning to his own private quarter in something that onlycan be described as light speed light.

The Guestsay: “What is it with these Italian? Affection like that just isn’t normal.Have they no respect for personal space? I’ll stay with the entertainmentsystem for now, thank you very much”

Rest inpeace Mrs Flower

Mrs Flower becamea citizen in 2009, when she was about 2 years of age. She was one of the firstcitizens of the Hen Department.

Mrs Flowerleft us the morning at the 7^th November after a very short illness dueto old age.

She was a verystrong lady with strong opinions. Therefore she was the natural choice for theposition as Spokeshen when this got available late 2009. When she retiredearlier this summer, she left behind a serious amount of perfect statement onbehalf of the Hen Department.

Mrs Flowersbig joy in life was being a mother. She was indeed a dedicated mother, and shewas truly devastated when her kids left her wing at only 13 weeks old.

Mrs Flowerwas also a true feminist, and when it showed out that her husband Mr Flower wasa rather unpleasant playboy who loved more than just look at the other ladies,and than more than once got in a fight with a fellow rooster, this got to muchfor Mrs Flower. She got a divorce and Mr Flower was evicted and had to moveinto another hen department down the hill. Mrs Flower never got married again.

Mrs Flowerwas put to rest at the Flying High Cemetery,where even the sun popped by to wish an old friend good by.

Mrs Flower leavesbehind a daughter and 7 grandkids.

Miss Flowersay: “This is a huge loss for us all. She was a great mum, and I have raised mykids with her as my sole example. She wasn’t just a great mum though, she was asupport for all of us here in the Hen Department, and she truly will be missed.Still her memory will live on.”

The hendepartement really don’t like to get off their perches with a wrong foot.Therefore, preparing their feet and claws for the upcoming heavy rain all thefeet feathered hens and roosters were lucky enough to get an emergencyappointment with the clawicurist. One after the other the brave birds had theirfeet featherdo transformed from long and beautiful to short and ….. oh letsface it, short and beautiful.

Hippiesaid: “I had been saving up to long feather for weeks, and than! It is not likeI hate rain or anything, but honestly, it is a nightmare!”

The Hendepartment was not the only one preparing for the upcoming oh so terribleweather. Big Daddy and DJ sQuil realized that they had to prepare for theindoor season. Therefore the two gentlemen decided to go wild, and invest in anindoor entertainment system. After all it had been on their wishing list allsince the last one was ruined during some truly mystical circumstancesincluding two pigs.

DJ sQuiledoinked: “WHOW, this Mac Pig version 3751 is just great! I would actually go asstrong to say AMAZING! What weather are you talking about? Who has time to goout anyway? Can’t you see I am busy? WUHUUUU!! It even comes with the doubleflappable cardboard application! What are you still doing here? Can’t you see Ihave things to work out? Oh my, oh my! This is SOOOO exciting! STILL HERE!!?”

Whilesomebody hasn’t that much of preparing to do towards the upcoming maximumdownfall of water, somebody tries to prepare them self psychological instead.The poor Angora Cat was bravely having one last big outdoor jumping session.Gone was all the green. Gone was the sweet heat. Gone was the blue sky. Insteada grey moist mist had made the view rather foggy, his fur damp, and the greyand brown (previously known as green) was sticking to his fur in a not socomfortable way. The Angora cat was shortly thereafter seen jumping backindoors. He was last observed in front to the fireplace.

The Angoracat say: “Let’s face it, our dear friend the Sun has left us. At least Ithought we were friends…..”

Lately thecitizens and especially the journalist have been deprived of their freedom tospeech. While the constitution clearly state that every citizen has the rightto speak is mind as long as it is not directly harmful toward another citizen,this isn’t always the case. It is not like the citizen doesn’t speak whateveris on their mind, as they have always done, but the internet connection has beendown. Therefore the citizens has been deprived of getting the latest update onwhatever happening in the world, and therefore have seen them selves formingtheir opinions on yesterdays news. As you can all imagine this could have ledto poor judgement in the long run. You just can’t build a good solid foundeddemocracy if you do not know exactly what is going on in the world, and why thethings that are going on are actually happening.

About ayear ago “the English cat that live together with that big huge black so-calleddog on the wrong side of the valley” (from now on known as the Guest) stayed asa guest in our hotel department. Off course the poor chap was not surprisinglyincredible happy with our five paw services, so after begging and nagging hishuman non-stop he has no returned to our facility.

The Guestis busy enjoying the entertainment system and his favourite show is the trice adaily “What is not happening to that big huge black so-called dog in thecanile!?” His favourite show so far was “the Guest is cuddled 5 times a day,how often is the big huge black thing cuddled a day?” Apparently the Guest is ahuge fan of reruns.

After Primadonnagot her health certificate back from the vet (after the awful ear incident) sheis now back on the road. She has been observed around snack time, but next tothat the cat is celebrating her new found freedom, and is spending it on theroad again.

Today thecitizens woke up to the most beautiful autumn day. The sun was shining and the temperaturewas rising. Actually the weather was so great that even Seniora went out, andnot only out, but she hit the road and went for a walk. The old lady whonormally seems allergic to every living green thing was observed almost all theway to the hen house, where she even got completely into the spirit, and hunteddown an insect.

Seniora wasnot available for comment as she was to tired after the long walk, and wascurrently sleeping a serious nap in the indoors area.

This has finally led them back to their work for the neighbours were theunselfish pigs help out the overworked farmers with land management. The pigshelp consist on vital input towards the cleaning and fertilising department.

The pigswere not available for comments as they were currently to busy cleaning awayevery last piece of fig under the neighbours’ fig tree.

Theflapping fiasco

Thegrumpiness and in some cases (most actually) angriness, spread like firethrough dry grass on a very windy day when the new cat flap was installed. 6cats, an angora cat, a dog and a hen were all furious of the new instalment.The dog meant it had become too tight, the hen and the angora cat thought it wasuseless, and the cats got really upset when they realized that the flap onlyopened inwards and not outwards. The Primadonna refused all allegations thatthis was done to keep her indoor because of her bad ear. Still the new flap isthere, and the cats, dogs and hens had moved out.

The Modelsays: “You know I had to get out in human down time here the other night, andit took me several minutes to get the lazy human to open the door for me. Thanhalf an hour later when I really needed to get out again, it took even longertimer to get out. I would seriously recommend for that flap to be fixed asap.Who care about that silly ear of the Primadonna anyway? Not me, I promise youthat much!”

There is noway denying it, the hot days of summer is really gone. Therefore the dogs havestarted to winter proof their beds. The beds had their thick woolly sheet backon, and are now placed next to each other for the sharing of warm comfort.

Yesterdaysomebody installed a new ventilation shaft on the henhouse. Somebody thoughtthat it was of vital importance that the ventilation was improved in the areaof the hens’ food bowls. Even a child knows that all food area in damp areas needsa lot of ventilation to avoiding it getting mouldy. Actually the good doer evensacrificed his own well being and ate the whole lot just to see that the foodwas good enough for the lovely ladies. The saint behind this beneficiary work wantsto be anonymous, but serious research has led us to believe that this selfsacrificing animal is none the less than Big Daddy.

Lately thegeese have come upon a terrible problem. Their beloved water in their belovedpool seems to escape in a scary fast speed. This is really mysterious sincethis started to occur just after a huge rainfall. The terrified geese nowinsist on having their pool topped up at least twice a day.

Big Daddy in exercise mode

Speed 17

While outon his daily trot, a certain Big Daddy was so totally into his exercise that hehad totally forgotten to see where he was heading. So when he saw the fencecoming toward him, it was just too late. There was nothing he could do. Thespeed was way too high. Big Daddy immediately realized that this was not theday to be outside his fenced in area (hunting day) so he started to slow down.Off course you don’t have to know much about the law of physics to know thatpure muscle in such a big size need a lot of time to slow down. Therefore BigDaddy was seen taking some rather advanced turning operations, hoping thiswould slow him down. Which it did, but the speed was so HUGE. The first turnslowed him slightly down, but only slightly. Strangely enough this turn had puthim in the straight direction of the barn door, just smashing through the geesefeeding bowl first. This started to be very scary for the normal rathertranquil pig, as there just wasn’t enough time to take another turn to avoidhitting the barn door. Luckily for the poor chap, the door was slightly ajar,so he aimed for the opening and hoped the impact would not hurt his muscle masstoo much. The impact made the whole barn shaking and the barn door flewstraight up. The speed was now noticeable smaller, but still the speed wasdangerously fast. Big Daddy had by this realized that crashing was not to beavoided, but he continued his turning manoeuvres to make it as little aspossible. But in the end, there was just no more place to turn, and thedesperate pig crashed straight into the waterfowl food container whit his snoutfirst. Finally the pig stopped, but unfortunately the impact had been so bigthat the food container had tipped over and spilled its guts all over thefloor. After checking that no damage had occurred on himself, the unfortunatepig thought he better start to clean up after himself, because as you all know,pigs are by nature very clean animals.

Beautysaid: “I saw the whole thing; it felt like it all went by in slow motion.”

Our belovedpeachick has still refused to reveal his true sex for us, but the speculationshas lately taken a new turn after she/he lately gave us a glance of her newfeathers. If the peachick stand in just the correct angel towards the sun, andyou again stand inn the correct angel to both the sun and the peachick you canalmost completely clear see a shimmer of green in the neck feathers. This is abig discovery to lead us to believe he is a boy, versus the clue about thebrown eyes versus yellow or blue leads us to believe she is a girl.

Thediscussion is as you can imagine going high, and some betting has even beenrumoured to go on.

The bigrescue

Thismorning one of Miss Flowers tiny ones had manage to escape from his house. Thetiny one was no where to be seen nor heard. A huge rescue operation wasimmediately put in to action to find the little one trotting around all alone.Miss Flower and the rest of her tiny flock went in one direction, the rest ofthe search crew in other directions. The rescuer met up as agreed, but nobodyhad any good result. The only one who wasn’t there was Miss Flower and her tinyones. So the search was now for Miss Flower with all of her flock. Normallythis is a rather noisy bunch, but not today. The search was no concentrated on thearea Miss Flower was last seen, and sure enough, not fare from there you couldsee Miss Flower laying on the bottom of a very steep hill, and up from betweenher wings was a tiny red head popped up. Miss Flower had with out any problemat all found her missing chicken. So in the end, all she needed the rescue helpfor, was to go and fetch a nice helping of snack, to motivate the little chickfor the long climb up again.

Miss Flowersaid: “I knew where he was all along. It was nice of the others to help, butoff course totally unnecessary.”

The awfulaching

Yesterdaythe Primadonna came to the conclusion that even though she hated just the verythought of it, she needed medical care. Therefore she decided she could notpostpone it any further, and went to talk to the nurse. As normal the nurse wasnot very fast on the uptake, but as soon as the nurse awoken even she couldsmell the problem. The Primadonna had an unfortunate abscess problem andaccording to the smell, the abscess what not whole anymore.

Still thenurse didn’t find the puss, so the poor Primadonna had to spell it out for her.So when she insisted on getting her ear scrubbed, even the nurse felt theproblem. The awful abscess was actually leaking into her ear, which was notonly painful but also irritated, the ear as well. So the nurse did her bestcleaning out the area, and said it would have to be the vet next thing. Thepoor patient was in the meantime restricted to the bed chamber area. Which wasnot incredible popular.

The nextmorning the Primadonna was put into an ambulance carrier and off the vet itwent. There they had no mercy what so ever, and drained the whole thing, andinjected her with a very painful needle indeed. Than she was not only told tocome back, take meds but also to stay indoors!! The indoors thing has beendebated ever after, and we assume the debate will continue for about the next12 days. The sad Primadonna is now back to the bed chamber, debating herfreedom through a huge bowl of her favourite food.

King Tinysaid: “Oh oh oh, this is awful. My poor poor Primadonna is ill! How could this happened,is there no justice in the world. My poor poor girl. I did off course offer to accompanyher to the dreaded vet, but she was so ill that she mistook me for an intruderand slapped a couple of sharp claws in my direction. That is how ill she is!”

Every henand rooster unfortunately knows that not all days are good feather days. Especiallythe moulting season can be hard on a certain good looking rooster, still islife fear when you loose all your tail feathers at once? This might havebothered a rooster with a poor self-consciousness, but luckily for d’Oro hesuffers from no such thing. The tailless rooster is still observed clucking upthe chicks like nobodies business.

D’Oro said:“Tail feather or no tail feathers, the ladies still understandable adores me. Iam just that hot!”

Outwooled

Today thesheep department consisted on two very proud sheep. Due to very fast growingwool (needed for the upcoming cold season off course), the two sheep hadordered themselves brand new collars, as the old ones had just become to tightwith all the wool pressing up from underneath. The sheep have spent the rest ofthe days parading their new accessories, and admired each other. Strangelyenough the other citizens didn’t seem that interested in their happiness, sothe sheep continued to admire themselves even more.

No sheepwas available for comments as they were to busy admiring themselves, but wewere lucky to get the following comment from the Sheppard: “Big deal!”

Henhouseroof

While thesub-humans were here, they showed out to be very useful, in more ways than one.They also was incredible thoughtful, so when the hens wasn’t really that intopetting, the male human instead made them a completely new roof, which actuallywas something they had been dreaming about for quit a while. Now the rain willno longer bother the hens, or at least, it will not bother them at their safehaven.

Mr Purrsay: “It works for me as well. This is a nice place for me to help with thefeeding. That sub-human is a true hero!”

Art

Some maythink that the citizens don’t really care about art. That is wrong, totally andutterly wrong. The truth is that they do indeed care very much about art, butit need to be beautiful art, and the citizens has a clear view on what theyconsider good and beautiful art. Therefore the art is limited, as not much getup to their standards. Still even though they all more or less approve of art,some citizens approve of it more than others. Therefore this citizen had to goand have his sculpture made. Not only one, but two. He is very happy with theresult himself, even though it must be admitted that not all citizens agreewith Mr Purr that this is good art, not at all actually.

Mr Modelsay: “Honestly, I must admit that the artist has managed to get the best out ofthe situation, but off course it would have worked better if he had used a professionalmodel. Just saying, just saying…”

It was abig night for “not so little Amber anymore” when she had to sleep on the perchtogether not only with her mum, but also all the other hens and roosters. Latelymums wing had been shrinking so much, that she could hardly fit her headunderneath it, so this night her mum thought she might just be big enough tosleep at the perch. It was off course a bit scary, but even though mummy’s wingwas not over Amber, it was still just right next to her, and Amber did rapidlyfell into sleep, and so did mum and all the other who was ready to meet thenight at the perch.

Amber said:“Honestly, I would prefer to sleep under the wing of my mummy, but she has beenshrinking so much lately, that I really have trouble fitting underneath it. Hershrinking is actually a bit scary, sleeping at the perch though, not scary atall, ok, almost not scary at all.”

Lastmorning most of us woke up to the most dreadful news. There was no doubt, inthe distance we could clearly here the awful sound of a fox. Luckily the dogsdid their job to perfection (as almost always) and the fox soon left the area. Forour nevous readers out there, the fax was never seen, and after listening tothe dogs department pep talk, we don’t think he will be back shortly. Still thehens are perched up an hour extra each day, as a safety measure.

The poor waterfowl departmentis these days struggling to find the water in their pool underneath a constantlayer of old retired leaves. Even though the pool is cleared for leaves severaltimes a day, new leaves are just to happy to jump in and spoiled a poor birdneed to get her wings wet.

Mrs Goosesay: “You know you jump out in the water to get clean, and what happens? Insteadleaves stuck to you all over, and it takes forever to pick them off. Autumn is acruel thing.”

DJ sQuil with his not so welcome bandage

Pig bandage

DJ sQuilhad as normal been out rocking the world, butt his time something had gonewrong. He came home with a wounded ear. It wasn’t a particular big wound or anything;evil tongs might even say it was hardly visible. Actually it hardly wasvisible, but that had more to do with that fact that the wound was on theinside of the ear and not the outside of the ear. Everybody knows that theinside of a black pig’s ear is hardly visible at all, wound or not wound, so therewas no doubt that the wound needed nursing. OK, so not everybody meant that thewound did need nursing, and one in particular was absolutely convinced it didnot need any treatment at all. So with DJ sQuils negative attitude towardstreatment but the nurse insisting, something about truly evil flies, the smalloperation of cleaning and dressing the wound got almost as huge as DJ sQuilhimself. The fact that the only thing who was able to stick on the poorunfortunate pig ear was the before mentioned evil flies, did not make theoperation go any faster. Actually it went so slow that Big Daddy actually feltsorry for the poor chap, and insisted on getting a support band-aid on his ownear, which he then sported in front of the by now rather grumpy DJ sQuil. Inthe end the bandage did stick, and as his best friend, Big Daddy immediatelyput his snoutstamp on it.

DJ sQuilwas too grumpy to give any official statement, but we got the following wordsfrom his very good friend Big Daddy: “What a big pussy that boy is. Honestly Ihave been wearing this band-aid now for ages, and it does not bother me at all,NOT AT ALL. I can’t help it, but the truth is, DJ sQuil is nothing but a BIGcry baby! A BIG ONE! That is my honest opinion.”

After 3weeks with nothing but the best treatment from the 2 most wonderful sub-humans,the sub-humans have no left. Their departure was not popular amongst thecitizens, but as they all know, nothing good last forever. So the citizens arecurrently hissing themselves through long feeding times while praying for thewonderful sub-humans to come back.

Seniorasaid: “Finally somebody understands an old retired street cat like my self’s needfor a nice fur scrub, and than…. Gone! Oh I miss those magic fingers!”

Just theother days the citizens noticed that somebody was spying on them. Up there, inthe air, somebody was looking down on the suspicious citizens. Still a citizenunderstands that they are the victim of envy, and behaved accordingly. Just incase a paparazzi was onboard immediately pruning and posing was done.

The Modelsaid: “This is the backside of being a famous model. Everybody wants to have apiece of your private life. Still, I do accept visitors, if asked nicely, andsometimes I even show myself to these visitors, if I have the time, and theyshow the right respect towards a cat of my proportions.”

This beingthe festive season in our area (This season is more or less all year round tobe completely honest) the dogs have yet again been working very hard travellingto represent our nation to several big parties all over the region. Just thelast couple of weeks they have been to wine festivals, a nut festival, antiquesmarked and so on and so on. Strangely enough the dogs seem to love all this jetsetting, and are never turning down an offer for a new show.

TheSheppard say: “It is not that I like the lime light, oh who am I kidding, Ilove it love it love it!”

Theambulance

While outon a territorial walk, yet again the Sheppard was the victim of an evil attackfrom below. Somebody (yes, we still believe it is that really “low” dog fromnext door, who is behind this cruelty) had placed a rather huge thorn justthere where the Sheppard had to put her paw. She didn’t see it coming, but shedid feel it. It was incredible painful, and there was no way she was able towalk back home, even though it was only about 300m straight down. Luckily hertrip advisor also double as an ambulance, and the poor very unfortunateSheppard was lifted in to his arm and carried back home.

At arrivalback home, a nurse was immediately called for, and the thorn was removed fromthe very aching paw, hardly with out any whimpering from the Sheppard at all.

The Modelsay: “You know she looked a tad to comfortable in that ambulance if you ask me.I might even say it looked liked she rather enjoyed it.”

MissFlowers who seem to be hatched to the perfection of motherhood, has justherself hatched 4 new eggs. The experienced mother is all ready on and aboutwith the little ones, and they are all doing swell under her safe andexperienced wing.

Vendemia

This is agreat time of the year. The weather starts to be really cosy again, and thegrape harvest is to be collected and turned into wine. Since Maifrin don’t havegrapes who will be turned into wine, the dogs offered to help in the neighbourswineyard, where they made sure nobody unauthorized where to get close to abasket of grape waiting to be collected.

Sheppardsay: As the perfect guard dogs as we are, I am happy to announce that not evenone grape was closed to be nicked!”

A veryhappy cabbit the angora cat was in the 7^th heaven when he for thevery first time got his postcard ever, and it was only for him. It also was themost beautiful postcard he had ever seen, with a lovely photo of one of his alltime favourite snacks. The photo becomes even lovelier when the automatic royalcensure strip was removed. It was a nice thought of them off course, but to behonest, totally unnecessary as cabbits are not shy about certain aspect thatbelongs to the love life. Actually sooner the opposite, but the cabbit was theninformed that maybe the censure was not meant for him, but for the poor postalworkers, who is a little more shy about the subject than the cabbit is, ormaybe it was to protect the postcard to arrive at all, as they where afraidsomebody with certain interest might steal the postcard before it arrived toenjoy the photo for themselves. Actually the postcard did use 5 times as longas normal to arrive; leading the cabbit to believe that he was not the first tohave the censure removed.

The Modelsay: “What about me, I also love to get postcards, I do, and I don’t even mindif the motive is not that of an intimate love situation, I rather prefer it isnot actually.”

Arrival oftorture

It is notwith pleasure that we can announce that the veterinarians are multiplying. Yes,it is shocking but it seems that also veterinarians can become pregnant, andoff course on of ours had to prove it. The unpleasant surprise is supposed toarrive in December and in the meantime the vet has told us that scratching willnot be tolerated.

The Modelsay: “I have all ready booked an appointment for January, and let me tell youright now, there will be scratching and I’ll even put in a bonus bite!”

Biking withsheep

Thephenomena with dogs running along with biking humans are no news in the world. Offcourse the dogs here at Maifrin are so busy that they do not have time for thiskind of amusement. Therefore they left this work to somebody with a lot more sparetime on his trotters. Shaun jumped at the assignment with the biggest positive attitudeand a necessary equal patience. Because even though Shaun just loved his newhobby, the male human didn’t seem equally happy about it. Actually Shaun had asniky suspicion that the male human was trying to shake him off. Shaun was offcourse not easily fouled so the two friends where observed going back and forthjust in front of the neighbours wine yard. The whole thing was witnessed of theneighbours’ grape picking team, whom still seem to be laughing out very veryload indeed.

Shaun said:“Have nobody ever heard of a sheep gone biking before?”

Roadkill

This is avery painful season for the pigs. Not only have they been locked up in a tinyprivate garden, but all day they can hear the scream of the local road killtrying to cross the road to get down to the two very lonely pig tummies.

DJ sQuilsay: “Normally I am not lost for words, not at all actually, but this is such atorture. Laying here listening to the violent murder of innocent fruit andnuts, whom has done nothing wrong except trying to help out a hungry pig tummyin need. It is awful, awful I tell you. I just can’t talk about it. It is toohard. I have nothing to say. The world just isn’t right when a pig have tolisten to their scream, while all we would like to do was heading right upthere and help the poor poor fruit and nuts. Honestly it would be much betterif we just ate them at once, and that way the awful destiny as road kill wouldbe avoided. I am so sorry; I just can’t talk about this.”

Quack

We wouldlike to welcome our 2 new citizens. Mrs and Mr Mandarin have moved in at thepoolside. The two ducks are a splendid addition to our team and are all readyvalued member of our clan.

Mr Mandarinsay: “I just put my eyes on the pool and though, whaw, this is perfect it can’tget better than this. Than I saw her!!! WHAW! She is the most beautifulMandarin Duck in the whole wide world, she is amazing, and go figure, but shelikes me!”

Malnourished cat?

The Seniora has lately been doing some research to prove that she is actually malnourished and in seriously need of some (lots of actually) more food. She found the prove in an article claiming that if a human could manage to hold his/her hands around you, and the hands would meet in both end, well than you were seriously to thin. And the shocking truth is that human hands actually, (even though just barely) can meet each other with her tummy in the middle. The very smug cat showed this article to her personal chef, and got seriously angry when the personal chef said that this only was about human tummies, and not the one of the cat.

Seniora screamed in anger: “Why can’t anybody with me see that I need more food?”

The big move

Miss Flowers kids, the Flowerbuds have now become so big that they have reached the age where they can safely move into the Henhouse. Unfortunately neither mom nor kid saw the need in this, as they have found the barn to be a nice cosy place to live. Therefore a “taxi” had to be called upon for the big move.

Miss Flower was crying: “Outrages! I tell you, outrages!”

The night watch

This night almost every citizen was waken up by the night watch, consisting of the dogs. The alarm had gone off by the sound of an unauthorized dog in the vicinity of our property. The unknown dog was not the dog to cave in easy, but luckily, with help from the neighbour dogs under the perfect leadership of the Sheppard, the unfriended dog finally found it best to leave the area.

Mrs Goose said: “Oh that was such a scary experience. I was shaking all over.”

Out hunting tourists

After a lovely breakfast under the neighbours hazelnuts fields Big Daddy was crossing the road to get home in time for his pre-lunch nap, when two German tourist came walking down the road in his direction. Strangely enough the sight of a pig crossing the road was somewhat surprising for the tourist, but in stead of the normal “Oh, isn’t he beautiful, can I touch him?” sounds that normally come out of these kind of humans mouths, they didn’t say anything. They didn’t move either, they stood perfectly still like they were completely frozen. Really, that is not a good look for most people, neither for human tourist walking slowly around in brand new jogging equipment. Off course Big Daddy couldn’t be bothered with them, but the Sheppard could. She thought it best to let them know that with their strange behaviour (not at once saying; “OOOH What a beautiful looking dog”) it was best to give them and warning and let them know they were not welcome at her beloved home. So she did. Unfortunately the tourist didn’t understand dog, neither Italian nor English. Our human had in the end to collect them and guide them past 2 rather bored dogs. Why the tourists sounded angry is beyond us. If you can’t handle the local welcome in the countryside, PLEASE stay in the city!

Big Daddy has afterwards been heard mumbling: “What did they mean with wild boar? I am an incredible good looking pig for heavens sake!”

New citizen

We are thrilled to announce that a new citizen has hatched. A peachick did finally leave the egg, and is currently under the safe wings of Miss M. This is our first peacock citizen, and we could only been happier if several eggs had hatched. Not to worry, it is always next year.

Pruning

A certain fig tree has lately been growing completely wild. New fig leaves where popping out everywhere. Therefore two experts were called upon to prune the tree back to a normal size. Luckily the two experts love their work, and have promised to not leave the tree before the job is completely done.

Mike say: “This is a very important job, and they could not have called for better experts than us.”

The disco queen

Not that the cats never stop partying, but now we are entering the natural disco season. Seniora was proud to open the wild disco season, and was seen hitting the dance floor dressed up with several blinking lights. Off course being a retired cat, she had the fireflies doing the dancing while she rested comfortable at the middle of the floor.

Seniora says: “Ah, the firefly disco…. Makes me feel so young again.”
